The 2019 Bloody Fun Run

The Bloody Fun 5K Run/Walk is a team fundraiser and personal entry event benefiting the Bleeding Disorder Foundation of Washington. In Washington State, nearly 70,000 individuals are living with a life-threatening condition and few are aware. Our goal is to raise $155,000 for programming and bleeding disorder research. The Bloody Fun 5K Run/Walk is an exciting way to have a good time, bring awareness to bleeding disorders and support research!

The Bleeding Disorder Foundation of Washington advocates for the health and care of children and adults affected by the challenges of hemophilia and von Willebrand Disease.

Our mission is to embrace a holistic approach to educating our supporters and empowering those within our community to bring a voice to our cause. Together we will find a cure.

The Bleeding Disorder Foundation of Washington began in the 1970′s when parents gathered together at Camp I-Vy for their children. Over the years the Foundation changed its name and took on unimaginable challenges, resulting from tainted blood products in the 1980′s.  The result was tremendous devastation for the bleeding disorder community. Almost 70% of the community contracted HIV and, sadly, over half of them passed away.

In 1999, the name Bleeding Disorder Foundation of Washington was established. For over 15 years, the BDFW has been the leading advocacy and support organization for those living with bleeding disorders in Washington State. Today, the BDFW is launching a national research fund, provides over 28 educational programs a year throughout the state and fighting for access to medical care for all bleeding disorder patients.

When a person is cut or begins to bleed, certain proteins called clotting factor help our bodies stop bleeding. Each protein plays a key role at a certain stage of the clotting process. People with bleeding disorders are missing one of these proteins, making clotting difficult. Bleeding disorder is a general term for a range of medical conditions that cause poor blood clotting and continuous bleeding because of the absence of one of these proteins.
